Wellington City Council
Showcasing Lifeguarding as a career
The Brief
Wellington City Council engaged NeonLogic to deliver a video and media strategy to attract and engage potential candidates to join the council for Lifeguarding roles.
What We Did
We produced two videos tailored to engage potential Lifeguard candidates. The first video featured employees sharing their personal experiences, highlighting what they enjoy about their roles, the benefits of working for the council, and opportunities for career progression. This video is now featured on the client’s career website to attract prospective candidates.
The second video offered practical guidance for passing the Lifeguarding assessment, addressing challenges that previous applicants faced. The council felt that showcasing tips, tricks, and action shots would better prepare candidates for the process. Once candidates apply for a Lifeguard role, they receive a link to this video. To keep the focus on the visuals, we used graphics and background music to emphasize the tips, rather than a voiceover.
The media strategy included a mix of print and digital channels, such as Google Search and Display ads, as well as placements on Stuff, aimed at attracting those with swimming experience seeking career progression and part-time workers looking for flexible roles. Print media was leveraged to reach a more mature demographic, including retirees, while international Google Search targeted candidates on Working Holiday Visas.
